We have now expanded the Mikey Young At Heart program by offering high school students the opportunity to earn the volunteer hours they need to graduate, by learning CPR/AED online and through our free mobile app.
The Mikey Young At Heart App will teach thousands of students CPR/AED, making them more confident to use an AED or administer CPR, should the need ever arise. Download it to start earning volunteer hours today.
Formed in 2003 by Herity Ltd. and Heathwood Homes, the Mikey Network is working to create public awareness and provide education about heart-healthy lifestyles. Currently they are committed to placing "MIKEYs" (public access defibrillators) in as many high-risk locations as possible so people affected by sudden cardiac arrest might have a second chance at life.
The Mikey Network has placed 1800 "MIKEYs" throughout Ontario
Developed in conjunction with The Sick Kids Hospital, the Mikey's Kids Program provides a MIKEY unit to children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening heart disease. This allows both the children and the families to attempt to lead normal lives, knowing that should the situation arise, a MIKEY is right at hand.
The Mikey's Young at Heart Program places defibrillators in schools across the GTA, potentially saving the lives of not only students and teachers but also individuals and neighbourhood groups who regularly attend meetings, sports activities and community events held on school property. In 2006, The Mikey Network placed a MIKEY in every Toronto District School Board High School. The program continues to expand and now includes all Halton area high schools. Because of the the Mikey's Young at Heart Program, a MIKEY has been there to give two students a second chance at life.
GO Transit, in partnership with The Mikey Network and the Toronto EMS Cardiac Safe City program, has put their passengers' best interest at heart with the Mikey on the GO Program, by installing MIKEYs on trains and at stations throughout the GO Transit system.
The Mikey on Board Program began by placing MIKEY defibrillators in radio and television station-owned "events cruisers" to help keep people safe while out and about at community events across the GTA and beyond. In 2011, The Mikey Network announced one of their largest initiatives with the goal of having all major corporations place MIKEYs on their trucks in order to be able to potentially become a mobile life saver should the situation arise on the roads. Two Men and a Truck have adopted this as their mantra as well and have equiped every one of their vehicles in Canada with a Mikey to be able to be a Good Samaritan on the road.
The Mikey Cops are Tops Program is another Mikey Network initiative which has outfitted 100% of all Toronto police stations and holding cells with a MIKEY defibrillator to help safeguard those who serve and protect us.
Mikey and 911 was started by those brave 911 providers who have placed MIKEYs across Ontario and will continue to do through their contributions and community events like the 911 Ride.
The Mikey Team also participates in numerous fundraising initiatives including the Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada's Walk of Life walkathon, as well as helping to sponsor Mikey Walking Clubs and other heart-smart educational programs.
